Important Update: House Tabloid Sports Day
Our much-anticipated House Tabloid Sports Day is being held on Friday, 20th December.
Please note the revised schedule for Friday:
Revised Schedule:
Prep – Year 2: 9:20am – 10:40am
Recess for all students: 10:40am – 11:10am
Years 3 – 6: 11:10am – 12:30pm
Final Assembly: 12:50pm – 1:30pm
There will be no lunch break on the day due to the 1:30pm finish.
Please note the following important reminders:
- Students should wear their house colours on Friday, 20th December.
- Ensure students bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
School Performance Report & Principals Report
In 2024, the school performance method was updated to align with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) 2.0, emphasising equal focus on learning and wellbeing domains. The School Performance Reports provide annual insights into student outcome measures, comparing schools statewide and categorising them into one of four differentiated performance groups: High, Improving, Medium, and Developing.
The Differentiated School Performance Method (DSPM), introduced in 2017 and refreshed in 2024, aggregates data on student outcomes to assign schools to performance groups at three levels: individual outcome measures, learning and wellbeing domains, and overall performance. This precise approach enables schools to identify key areas for improvement, access targeted supports, and enhance strategic planning. The DSPM underscores a commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has access to a school focused on continuous improvement and equitable outcomes.
The following are our results in the 2025 report, which as you can see has come out with the highest rating possible which is an extremely pleasing result and testament to the collective focus on student learning and wellbeing by all stakeholders at IEPS. The Principal's report which will be sent out via Compass tomorrow evening will dive further into what has led to this result for us as a school and I strongly recccomend that you take the time to read through that report.
Graduating Class of 2025
Today, we celebrated the incredible achievements of our graduating Class of 2025, marking the end of their primary school journey with a heartfelt and memorable ceremony. A huge thank you to the parents and teachers whose time and effort made this afternoon so special—it was truly a fitting tribute to such an amazing group of students. We wish our graduates a fantastic time at their disco tonight, a well-deserved chance to celebrate together.
Their final assembly will take place this Friday from 12:50 to 1:30 pm, where we’ll have one last opportunity to reflect on their time at IEPS. We wish them all the best for the future, reminding them that they will always have a home here at IEPS, and we look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments.
Thank you School Council and Sub-Committees
Our dedicated School Council meets throughout the school year to undertake their important role in the governance of Ivanhoe East PS. The work of our School Council focuses on oversight of important areas such as the school finances, buildings and grounds, school policy, strategic planning, fundraising and out-of-school hours care provision. Working in partnership our School Council maintains a strong focus on continuous improvement and making sure that our students receive a high-quality education.
We will be holding School Council elections in February 2025 and we are always on the lookout for new members to join, with two vacancies needing to be filled. There are no special skills required and if you talk to any current councillor I'm sure they would encourage others to consider this opportunity.

Tuesday January 28, 2025- Staff Resume – preparation, planning and Curriculum day
Wednesday January 29, 2025 – All students in Year 1 to 6 start school for 2025 (Some Foundation students will have an Assessment Day, as per previous communication)
Thursday January 30, 2025 – Foundation students start school for 2025, with a staggered start time as communicated.

Teaching Excellence Program & Leaders in the Making 2024
Our school values the learning and development of our staff, and the positive impacts this has on student outcomes and school improvement.
We are proud to share that Rebecca Naylor, Alex Silvestro (2023) & Meg Dickson (2023) successfully graduated from the Teaching Excellence Program at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Further to this Meg Dickson and Georgia Lay recently completed the Leaders in the Making Course through the Department of Education.
Both of these programs enable skilled teachers to advance their capabilities and excellence in teaching. Through these programs, staff grew their knowledge of teaching practice using the latest, evidence-informed research by inquiring into areas of their practice, using the evidence of how students learn,explicit teaching methods, student engagement tools and discipline-specific focussed learning. They were also inspired by national and international experts in the field of education through two dedicated conferences.
We have been working with these staff to implement their knowledge and skills from the program to continue to support student outcomes and wellbeing at our school.

We are excited to announce that the IEPS WhatsApp groups for 2025 are being finalised, and each class's unique code will soon be shared (Thursday) with each 2025-year level via Compass, so you can join your 2025 class group and stay connected to the IEPS WhatsApp channel.

Reading over the school holiday break
With the school holidays looming, I thought now was a good time to remind families of the benefits of regular reading habits. Whilst we expect students to read every night as part of their homework routine, we truly want them to want to read every night for enjoyment. We hope this continues over the holidays and that our students can continue to keep up their reading habits. Research shows that the summer break leads to approximately a two-week drop in literacy skill for some students. For those that read regularly, they go the other way and can gain more than a month in terms of learning growth, simply by enjoying a book here and there and reading before bedtime.

We would like to wish all students, parents, and staff a wonderful Christmas and holiday season with their families. We would like to thank everyone who works so hard to make Ivanhoe East Primary School such a fantastic school. We appreciate the opportunity to work with your children each day. This relationship between school and home is vitally important and we know that our students benefit from the great relationship we have with our community.
