Dear Parents/Guardians,
Covid Update
I wish to thank our families for ensuring regular testing occurs twice weekly, ideally on a Monday and Wednesday morning, as this has certainly helped to keep track of any isolated cases in our school community. Thank-you to the parents who picked up their Rapid Antigen tests at school this week, for those that have not been collected we will send them home with your child. We are currently unaware if the Victorian Government will continue supplying them in the future weeks, we will keep you posted with any information on this topic as it comes to hand.
I would like to pass on my very best to those families that are dealing with Covid, wishing those infected a speedy recovery - as well as acknowledging those isolated as household contacts.
You may have noticed that each communication related to Covid has been updated to include individuals who were on-site while deemed infectious and also individuals who weren’t deemed infectious while on-site. We will continue with timely communications to individual cohorts as well as a daily summary message.
I would like to reiterate that the wearing of masks is required in all state schools for all staff and children in Years 3-6 (unless an exemption has been granted), and is highly recommended for students in Foundation – Year 2. We appreciate your diligence in regards to supporting your child with mask-wearing. Please note that a large volume of requests for masks have been made and our limited supplies are almost exhausted. It would be advisable for all students to have a good supply of their own masks packed in their school bag.
As always, if your child is unwell and exhibiting Covid symptoms, please keep them at home and undertake a RAT or PCR test. This is the single best strategy to reduce the spread of Covid at IEPS.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent Teacher Meetings will take place on Tuesday the 1st March, Wednesday the 2nd of March and Thursday the 3rd of March via Webex. Please book an interview time with your child’s classroom teacher via Compass from Friday the 18th March after 9.30am. Classroom teachers will email you the link to their Webex rooms.
Information Sessions
We presented our Junior, Middle and Senior school information sessions last week, thank-you to the staff who presented and all parents who attended. Please find the recording of the Middle and Senior school sessions on the 2022 Learning Blog. Unfortunately, there was a technical issue with the Junior school recording. We have uploaded the slides for your reference, but please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Zones of Regulation
IEPS has launched the Zones of Regulation as a new addition to our whole school approach to Wellbeing. The approach was shared with parents during our information night and in last week’s bulletin. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more information with you.
What are the different Zones?
The Zones of Regulation are a concept used to help students learn how to self-regulate. The Zones of Regulation creates a system to categorize how the body feels and emotions into four coloured Zones with which the students can easily identify.
Blue Zone: low level of arousal; not ready to learn; feels sad, sick, tired, bored, moving slowly.
Green Zone: calm state of alertness; optimal level to learn; feels happy, calm, feeling okay, focused.
Yellow Zone: heightened state of alertness; elevated emotions; has some control; feels frustrated, worried, silly/wiggly, excited, loss of some control.
Red Zone: heightened state of alertness and intense emotions; not an optimal level for learning; out of control; feels mad/angry, terrified, yelling/hitting, elated, out of control.
We will teach the children that everyone experiences all of the Zones. The Red and Yellow zones are not ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’ Zones. All of the Zones are expected at one time or another. We will show them that the Blue Zone, for example, is helpful when you are trying to fall asleep.
How will my child learn about the Zones of Regulation?
We will be introducing the Zones through discrete teaching lessons and also be using the Zones language as part of daily school life so all staff will be referring to them, not just their class teacher.
School Photos
A reminder that school photos will take place on the 16th and 17th of March. Please remember to visit the website to complete your order before the photography days. Sibling photos must be pre-ordered online, or they may not be taken on the day. If you have lost the personalised order form, please come to the office to collect a new form.

CALL FOR PTFA MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS
Your invitation to volunteer with the PTFA this year
Welcome to the year 2022 and lets all hope we have a full year of happy kids at school!
As we get back into the swing of things I wanted to remind returning parents, and introduce new parents, to the IEPS Parents and Teachers & Friends Association.
What is the PTFA?
We are a group of parent volunteers and nominated teachers who manage numerous parent and school engagements throughout the year
- The class reps’ program and support
- Fundraising activities and opportunities
- Social events such as morning teas, BBQs, cocktail parties and year level events (COVID dependant!)
- Bi-Annual School Fair
Want to be involved?
We are hoping to understand soon from the Department of Education what we can do this year and would love to have a lot of the newer parents involved.
If you are new to the school, a prep or grade 1 parent / guardian or just want to get more involved this year you are warmly invited to do so.
You can put your hand up to help on a specific fundraising or social event or help on the committee in a wider role. Up to you how much time you can provide and how you would like to help.
It’s a really great way to meet people across the school community.
We will have our first meeting of the year soon (on an evening via Zoom) and I would love to welcome some new team members!
Please get in touch if you want to be invited to the next meeting, or if you have any questions.
Warmest thanks
Helen McBain
