Germs circulating
The Health Department has alerted the community to gastroenteritis being present in the community, particularly childcare centres at this stage. Gastroenteritis is easily spread; hand sanitiser does not kill these germs so washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is recommended. We have had a few cases already so it is timely to remind parents that if their child has gastro, they should remain at home for 48 hours after the last time they vomit or have diarrhoea.
School Uniform
This is a gentle reminder that the school uniform is compulsory. We have a large amount of second hand uniform items available for purchase at $5.00 per item through the office if you need them. It has been lovely to see so many students wearing their uniform with pride. The broad-brimmed hat is compulsory in Terms 1 and 4 of each school year.
Students without lunches
The class teacher will contact you to ask you to bring lunch to school. If you or anyone you ask are unable to bring lunch to school, the class teacher will make your child a vegemite sandwich from staffroom supplies.
When this occurs, you are asked to make a $1.00 donation to the office.
The canteen is no longer able to provide lunches that have not been ordered through the school’s online ordering system.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SCHOOL NURSE - GASTRO ALERT
The Department of Health has recently issued an alert for child care facilities regarding an outbreak of Norovirus ( Viral gastroenteritis) across the state.
Some of the key messages are:
Parents are urged to keep young children at home if they are sick amid a rise in childcare centre in Victoria. Children should stay at home until at least 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped since they will still be infectious.
Viral gastro enteritis is highly infectious. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and abdominal pain and can include headache and muscle aches. Symptoms can take up to three days to develop and usually last between one or two days, sometimes longer.
Washing hand is the most effective way of preventing the spread of infections. HAND SANITISERS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE AGAINST MANY VIRUSES THAT CAUSE GASTROENTERITIS.
Reinforce basic hygiene and cleaning of surfaces.
If symptoms are severe please seek advice from your child’s medical practitioner.
