December 10th – Human Rights Day
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the official UN document for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR was ground-breaking in setting fundamental expectations for all individuals around the world. If you would like to read this document, it is available in over 500 languages, being the most translated document in the world. On this day we reflect on these human rights and acknowledge the privileged position we have of living in Australia. There is an expected announcement on December 10 for an updated pledge for our globes future human rights.

IEPS NEWS
CUT…. AND THAT’S A WRAP!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the 2023 Press Club - Adi A, Harrison B, Sibina S & Joanna X and Alex Silvestro who has coordinated and been the behind-the-scenes staff member. This year, Press Club launched the IEPS News on our YouTube Channel. They worked hard to write fun and engaging scripts each fortnight, practise their scripts as well as preparing younger students to present theirs in front of the camera. Press Club also developed their technology skills through filming and framing a shot, using boom and desk microphones to get the best audio, and using iMovie to edit the episodes, editing out the green screen and putting in appropriate backgrounds.
I am in awe of how hard these students have been working and their level of collaboration, teamwork and how they conducted themselves when working with students in younger year levels. As a staff, we are so proud of what the Press Club has achieved this year and each member should be proud of themselves too.
Please find below a document that includes all the episode links that were produced this term for you to enjoy.

Lost Property
Lost property has piled up high again this term. Miss Silvestro and the year 6 students have sorted out items with names and will deliver to classrooms over the coming days. There are many jumpers and jackets on the lost property table without names. If your child has lost anything this term, please make the time to look through the lost property ASAP.
Anything unnamed on the lost property table on December 18 will be taken for a wash and sent to the 2nd hand uniform shop.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support.
2024 Parent Payment Contributions
Ivanhoe East Primary School is looking forward to another great year of teaching and learning and would like to advise you with an update on Ivanhoe East Primary School’s voluntary financial contributions for 2024.
To provide educational programs of a ‘higher’ standard and quality expected by our community, we require funds to support this. We use voluntary contributions from families to support us in providing better quality materials, equipment, resources, enhanced programs, and opportunities beyond the standard Victorian curriculum. To date, we have been most fortunate that our school community values the high standard of resourcing that payment of these contributions provides and has willingly contributed.
The ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students. We want to thank you for all your support, this has made a huge difference to our school and the resources/programs we can offer such as.
- High-quality literacy and numeracy resources both hands-on and digital that enhance our pedagogical approach in teaching to each student's point of need.
- High-quality Assessment and Data analysis tools that allow for timely feedback and inform our practice to meet the needs of each student.
- Providing unique opportunities for our students through Musical performances, Art Shows, Physical Educational opportunities and resources, Environmental Clubs, and well-resourced high-quality specialist programs.
- School Nurses that equate to a full-time equivalent Nurse on-site.
- Supporting our School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework through Social and emotional tracking tools and resources.
- Technology through iPads and Laptops which are available for all students.
- Well-maintained Grounds and Buildings.
- Well-resourced and staffed Library.
- All stationery required by your child throughout the year. This will be delivered to the school. No further book pack items will be required to be purchased.
Parent Payment contributions will be sent directly to families through Compass at the end of next week. This will include an itemised list of curriculum, non-curriculum, and extracurricular contributions and information on how to make payment and information for financial support.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Farewell to the following staff:
Mrs. Sally Calvert is retiring at the end of 2023. Sally has been a wonderful staff member who is highly regarded by students, parents and staff. Sally has had a long and distinguished career as a teacher. We thank Sally for her commitment and dedication to the profession and all the students she taught over her time.
Mrs. Fran Gould is moving to Rosanna Golf Links Primary School in 2024. Fran has been an integral part of the IEPS teaching community and has led many areas across the school, most recently was the Year 4 Team Leader and Digital Technologies Coordinator. We wish Fran all the best with her new role at Rosanna Golf Links and we look forward to continuing to work together as network colleagues.
Class Placement & Step-Up Day for 2024
Classes for 2024 have been finalised and students will be partaking in our Step-Up Day program on Monday and Tuesday of next week. In these sessions they will be with their 2024 classroom teacher and 2024 classroom peers.
Class creation is an intricate process that involves many variables and is an in-depth analytical process. These variables include each student’s academics, learning needs, student pairings, behavioural aspects, friendship requests, each student’s specific classroom teacher’s observations and judgments, and parent requests. However, I assure you that all requests and information on file was part of the decision-making process.
We can guarantee that each student has received at least one of the learning friends and these classes have been created based to provide the most balanced classes that numbers, gender, behaviours, academics, and addition supports. Due to this process now being finalised and the intricacy involved, there will be no amendments made to these grades. We thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to our Step-Up program next week.
Kmart Wishing Tree
This term, the PAG representatives decided to choose a fundraiser that meant that other kids their age would not go without a Christmas time. They have chosen The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal.
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal aims to create a brighter Christmas for Aussies experiencing hardship or crisis, through the delivery of gifts to those in need nationwide, including communities impacted by the cost of living. This fundraiser will run from Monday 20th of November until Wednesday the 13th of December. Some suggested gifts you can choose from:
- Books
- School supplies
- Headphones
- Everyday essentials for all ages, such as socks, bed linen and bath towels
- Gift cards
There will be a Christmas tree set up in the year 6 space where you can bring your unwrapped presents and place them under the tree either before school 8:45-8:55am or after school 3:30-3:40pm.
Procedure for Collecting Students During School Hours
On the back of a recent bulletin post, please find below a flowchart for our new and improved system of collecting students during school hours.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this and we hope this will lead to a timelier and more efficient process for parents and less of a load on our front office as well as not impact teaching time. I also ask that while we are transitioning to this new procedure you please remain respectful to our admin staff.
Assemblies Term 4
This term we will be continuing with fortnightly on-site assemblies, with the alternating week being an IEPS news episode. Below are the dates for our on-site assemblies;-
· Friday 15th of December (Final assembly of the year)
