Infectious Disease
Over the past week we have seen an increase is students displaying symptoms of infectious diseases and have subsequently been sent home as they have been unwell. We ask that if your child is symptomatic for any illness you do not send your child to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
Days of Acknowledgement
November 8th – Diwali
On this date, we acknowledge Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. This festival is celebrated in a myriad of ways but its symbolism remains the same; ‘light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance’. IEPS is proud to have a multicultural community, if you are celebrating this date – Happy Diwali!
November 13th – World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day is an International Day of Observance created to highlight the good deeds in our communities and the power that kindness gives to us as individuals. With so much around the world that can easily divide us, this date encourages us to lead with empathy, understanding and cooperation in the hopes of a more harmonious and caring future.

East Ivanhoe Preschool Relocation
As you may be aware, East Ivanhoe Preschool have renovations planned for 2024. Throughout the year the YMCA and Council have been working to find a suitable temporary location. The school was approached earlier in the year and we have advocated for the use of the Middle School campus as the temporary location. Unfortunately the decision isn’t that simple, even though we fully supported and advocated for this relocation onto our site the ultimate decision is based on the YMCA and Council’s negotiation and decision making process.
We hope the relocated site works for all families involved. If your family may be impacted by this relocation and you need to discuss it further, please do not hesitate to contact me. We look forward to working with and supporting our East Ivanhoe Preschool parents during 2024 and subsequently welcoming them back to their new and improved site on King Street in 2025.
Procedure for Collecting Students During School Hours
On the back of last week’s bulletin post, please find below a flowchart for our new and improved system of collecting students during school hours.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this and we hope this will lead to a timelier and more efficient process for parents and less of a load on our front office as well as not impact teaching time. I also ask that while we are transitioning to this new procedure you please remain respectful to our admin staff.
Tuning in to Kids program
In last week’s bulletin we highlighted our School Psychologist’s role at IEPS and the work that she and our wider teaching staff are doing around neurodiversity. In the article we mentioned the upcoming Tuning in to Kids Program that our School Psychologist Zoe Bloore and head nurse Hilda Hallinan, (who are both trained in presenting this program), will be running for FREE to IEPS parents/guardians in Term 1 of 2024. Usually the program costs $300 per person.
We have had a great initial response with close to 20 families interested. If you are interested in participating in this program and haven’t already filled out the form, please find it attached below.
Tuning in to Kids teaches Emotion Coaching to parents to help children:
• Have greater success making and keeping friends.
• Have better concentration at school.
• Regulate their emotions when they are upset or angry.
PIVOT Wellbeing Update
Towards the end of Term 3, all students at IEPS took part in our bi-annual Student Survey on Teaching through our PIVOT Wellbeing platform. This survey provides a timely insight into students' learning experience gathering meaningful feedback on our students' learning experience. The survey is anonymous for the student and confidential for the teacher, and it delivers timely insights and actionable next steps for teachers and leaders to maximise teaching impact within the classroom. Please find below recent data that shows Term 3 2023 data as well as 12 month growth from Term 3 2022 – Term 3 2023.
Year 3-6 student survey on teaching and learning
2022 79% overall score with + 0.3% growth over the 6 months from Term 1 2022 to Term 3 2022.
In comparison, in 2023 there was an overall score of 81.8% and + 3.4% growth over the 6 months from the start of 2023 to the end of 2023.
As is highlighted below from Term 3 2022 to Term 3 2023 is an annual growth of +2.4%.
Year F-2 student survey on teaching and learning
2022 overall score was 84.4% with – 2.2% negative growth over the 6 months from Term 1 2022 to Term 3 2022.Overall the accumulative result over F-6 was 85.2% with an annual 12 months growth of +3.3% and 6-month growth in 2023 of +2.2%.
Even though we had growth in all but one area on an average of 3.3%, we focus on a continuous improvement cycle and we are currently completing focus group sessions with students to further unpack areas that will be focus points in 2024, which will be part of our 2024 Annual Implementation Plan. These areas are determined by low growth and/or lower than expected whole school results.

Smile Squad is coming to IEPS next week!!
Dear Ivanhoe East Primary School families,
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school this Term starting from Week 7.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program. This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
Smile Squad Dental Packs
All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.
Your child(ren) will soon receive a free dental pack to bring home. The dental pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.
Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.
If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.
Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?
No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.
The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
The Smile Squad is scheduled to be here from Mid November:
