The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey (Closes Friday 8th September)
So far we have had 31% of our community respond to The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey. As this is the annual Department survey that assists us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate,
student behavior, and student engagement, we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Therefore, the more responses we receive,
the more that can be celebrated and consequent effective forward planning can occur.
All families would've received an email from carmel.sitilidis@education.vic.gov.au on Monday 7th of August with their Individual Parent Log In details and information on how to complete the survey. The survey only takes 15-20 minutes to complete. If you did not receive the email with your log in, please contact Carmel directly.
This survey closes on Friday 8th September. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like more information.
Assembly Update
This week being Week 9, will be an onsite assembly and we will present Week 9 'Student of the Week' at the onsite assembly this Friday.
Next week, Week 10, we will feature our final IEPS News YouTube Channel for the term. (Week 10 Student of the Week will be in the bulletin next week however we will announce these award winners at our first onsite assembly next term).
This change is due to our Footy Day on the last day of term being Friday 15th of September.
Days of Acknowledgement
September 6th – National Health and PE Day
Ivanhoe East Primary is incredibly fortunate to have so many opportunities for students to learn and engage with health and PE based activities. Alongside our wonderful PE teacher, Mr. Bartlett and our healthy food options at the canteen, students are given opportunities to explore and learn more about their bodies in a myriad of ways throughout the year. Whether this be in our health inquiry in term 1, the incursions and excursions that allow students to move their bodies or interschool sport. On this day we reflect on the importance of Health and PE and the opportunities we are exposed to so that we can continue to learn and grow as happy, healthy and active individuals.
House Winner Tharra House Term 2
This year IEPS have implemented a House Point System, which rewards students that display positive behaviour that aligns with our school values of Respect, Friendship, Curiosity and Resilience. The winning house for Term 2 was Tharra House (Green House). The prize for the winning house is a Zooper Dooper for each student who are in Tharra. Students will receive their Zooper Dooper on the last day of Term 3. Parents of children who have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition that is impacted by the consumption of food will be contacted by their child’s classroom teacher with an alternative arrangement.
Humans of IEPS
Meet Carly and Michael, our green-thumbed Humans of IEPS.
Carly: ‘About four years ago, we sent out an appeal to the school community to help improve the IEPS grounds. A core group of parents and students came together and we became the Environment Club. Since then, we have secured three Junior Landcare grants to revitalise the veggie boxes, compost bays and worm farms. With help from the kids at lunch-time, we have also created a quiet, sit-down corner with plants and trees for the children and educators.
One of the grants was fairly significant, meaning we could spend all of the money on indigenous plants to create a biodiverse habitat at the back of the school, known as ‘The Banks.’ In 2020, parents and the community came together to prepare the soil and soon after, students from Prep to Grade 6 planted 2,200 plants over 3 days.
Our volunteer numbers have dwindled since then but there’s still so much we can do. We meet most Fridays at lunch until the end of school. We’d love enthusiasts to come and join us. You don’t need any experience – just an appreciation of gardens and the outdoors!’
Join Carly and Michael on Fridays. To volunteer, please contact IEPS reception for more information and register your interest (WWCC required).
Uniform update
Spring Clean Out
Second hand uniforms are currently in high demand! If you haven’t started your uniform spring clean out yet, now is the perfect time!
Any size across the full range of our uniform is very welcome. Jumpers, jackets and t-shirts must be IEPS branded. School dresses, both winter and summer with white trim only are also accepted. As always, please ensure items are clean and free of stains and holes.
Donations can be dropped off in the red bin outside the sick bay any time or Monday and Friday mornings above the gym, (near the music room), at the Second Hand Uniform shop. All items to purchase are $5 each.
Uniform Swap Over
For the first time, we’d like to trial a uniform swap over. Visit the Second hand uniform shop on Monday and Friday mornings from 8.30-9.15am with your donation and you’re welcome to take something in its place.
The process will be reviewed at the end of term 4, and feedback from the IEPS community will be welcomed.
Lost Property
The lost property pile is still there and growing in size! There's an increasing number of named and unnamed items piled high on the table in front of the library.
Unfortunately, the school doesn’t have the resources to dedicate the time needed to sort through this ever-growing pile so we are calling upon individual families to please find time to look for any lost items as soon as possible.
At the end of the Term 3 (next Friday), lost property will be sent to the Second Hand Uniform Shop and anything unbranded or casual will be donated to charity.
Alternatively, any parent volunteers with time to sort through lost property are very welcome to contact the front office at any time to offer assistance. Grab a couple of friends and have a good catch up as you sort through it!
We also take this opportunity to thank those who have volunteered in the past.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance with this.
IEPS BIG NIGHT OUT
Tickets are now available. Get in early so you don’t miss out on the social event of the year!
Infectious Disease
We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.
Follow Us

A reminder that we now have a community Instagram account, this account is used to connect with our wider community, promote school events and give an insight into our facilities, incursions, excursions, and all of the wonderful teaching & learning that is happening at IEPS. You can follow our movements by networking with us @ivanhoeeastprimaryschool on Instagram.

Assistant Principal's Message - Smile Squad//Walk,Scoot,Ride Campaign
Smile Squad is coming to IEPS
Dear Ivanhoe East Primary School families,
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school in term four.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care
We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.
Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic
OR use the below QR code:
Please complete and submit the consent form by 13/10/2023.
The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages.
Smile Squad dental packs
All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.
Your child(ren) will soon receive a free dental pack to bring home. The dental pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.
Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.
If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.
Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?
No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.
The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
Banyule Council Walk/Scoot/Ride Campaign
As you are already aware IEPS is currently participating in the walk, ride and scoot to school program. Throughout this program we strive to achieve students becoming more active in the way they arrive at school.
This program has begun and we look forward to it running over the next few weeks. Like last year we are tracking the amount that each student is riding, walking and scooting to school and promoting some healthy competition between classes.
Let’s hope we have some more nice sunny mornings and we see even more families walking/riding/scooting to school.
