The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey (Closes Friday 8th September)
So far we have had 15% of our community respond to The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey. As this is the annual Department survey that assists us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate,
student behavior, and student engagement, we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Therefore, the more responses we receive,
the more that can be celebrated and consequent effective forward planning can occur.
All families would've received an email from carmel.sitilidis@education.vic.gov.au on Monday 7th of August with their Individual Parent Log In details and information on how to complete the survey. The survey only takes 15-20 minutes to complete. If you did not receive the email with your log in, please contact Carmel directly.
This survey closes on Friday 8th September. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like more information.
Assembly Update
This week being Week 8, will be an onsite assembly and next week (Week 9) will also be onsite and this will be our last onsite assembly for the term. In week 10 we will feature our final IEPS News YouTube Channel for the term.
This change is due to our Footy Day which will take place on the last day of term, Friday 15th of September.
School Disco (This Friday)
The Disco is this Friday. As it is a Parent Run event, this is the final call out for volunteers to assist on the night in various roles: Front Desk, Chill Out room, Dance Floor, Security, Tidy Up.
We need most of these roles to be filled for both the JUNIOR and SENIOR discos, so please add your details via the following link and Tina Donohoue will be in touch closer to the day with further details.

Days of Acknowledgement
August 31st – International Day for People of African Descent
This date was created by the United Nations to honour and celebrate the culture of people who are of African descent.
We acknowledge the impact people of African descent have made on a worldwide scale in arts, science, and culture as well as various individuals who have made everlasting changes to our globe.
IEPS is proud to have a diverse and ever growing diverse community.
September 3rd – Father’s Day/Special Persons Day
On Sunday the 3rd of September we spend the day thinking of and honoring those who have cared for us and kept us safe as we grow up. A day that allows us to dote and show the appreciation we have of our fathers, some of us may also spend this day with others that we love who have helped raise us – whether this be a grandparent, a singular parent, a friend or extended family member. Within this day, we recognize those who have lost their fathers, cannot be fathers or have grown up without the love and support that fathers and special people give us.
From IEPS we say thank you for everything you do dads and special people. We could not be the tremendous individuals we are without you.
September 4th – 10th – National Child Protection Week
National child protection week is an annual initiative that aims to raise awareness about the complexities of child neglect and abuse. The theme for NCPW is always, ‘protecting children is everyone’s business’; it really takes a community to ensure our young people feel supported, safe and flourish as individuals. We know what an impact our words and actions make on building every individual’s understanding of the world around them.
At IEPS we take the wellbeing of our individuals and families incredibly seriously. Please know that if you or someone you know is struggling, our staff are here for you and we will do everything we can to support you.
Fathers/Special Persons Day Stall
A reminder that Friday 1st September is our Fathers/Special Persons Day stall at School. The students will have allocated time to engage with the items that will be on sale. We ask that you speak with your child about this and allocate a small amount of money for them to purchase goods on Friday.
**We will not have a lot of change on hand so please do not send your child to school with large notes as this may result in disappointment.
IEPS BIG NIGHT OUT
Tickets are now available. Get in early so you don’t miss out on the social event of the year!
Banyule Council Walk/Scoot/Ride Campaign
We are excited to announce that IEPS is participating in the walk, ride and scoot to school program. Throughout this program we strive to achieve students becoming more active in the way they arrive at school. This program has begun and we look forward to it running over the next few weeks. Like last year we are tracking the amount that each student is riding/walking/scooting to school and promoting some healthy competition between classes.
Let’s hope we have some nice sunny mornings and we see even more families walking/riding/scooting to school.
Infectious Disease
We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
If your child does test positive for COVID-19 and/or any other infectious disease we ask you contact the school via email Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au and it is recommended that they isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
In relation to Covid-19 it is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff:
- If you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection, no matter how mild
- If you are a household or close contact of someone who has COVID-19
- If you are a social contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.
Follow Us

A reminder that we now have a community Instagram account, this account is used to connect with our wider community, promote school events and give an insight into our facilities, incursions, excursions, and all of the wonderful teaching & learning that is happening at IEPS. You can follow our movements by networking with us @ivanhoeeastprimaryschool on Instagram.

Assistant Principal's Message - Smile Squad is coming!
Smile Squad is coming to IEPS
Dear Ivanhoe East Primary School families,
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school in term four.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care
We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.
Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic
OR use the below QR code:
Please complete and submit the consent form by 13/10/2023.
The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages.
Smile Squad dental packs
All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.
Your child(ren) will soon receive a free dental pack to bring home. The dental pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.
Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.
If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.
Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?
No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.
The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
