June 18th–24th - Refugee Week
Refugee Week celebrates the contributions that refugees make to our community. With this year’s theme being ‘finding freedom’, we take this week to think about the extreme difficulty individuals go to when escaping their own countries in the hopes of a better future. Ivanhoe East wishes to create an environment where refugees and those of refugee backgrounds feel accepted and safe. We hope that all of our students are able to approach this topic with empathy and perspective. This week in the IEPS library, we will be displaying and advertising books that focus on this theme or are written by refugee authors. These books will be available for students to read in their library lesson or to take home and read at home.
2024 Prep Enrolments (Due by July 28th)
Please note that all enrolments, including sibling claims and in zone enrolments need to be submitted by Friday 28th of July. Please collect an enrolment form from our front office or online via our website.
We also have one more Pre-Prep session, a Prospective Prep Information Night, tonight Wednesday 14th of June at 6.30pm in the Space centre.
Final Assembly Postponed to Week 9 – Friday 23rd June
As the Year 5s and 6s will be absent this Friday on an excursion, assembly will not take place this week. A final assembly will take place at 9am on Friday 23rd June, Week 9 (the last day of term, before House Spirit Day rotations commence).
The purpose of the assembly will be to celebrate the students’ hard work this term, particularly their learning from the Science Expo and Art Show. Therefore, each year level will have a group or 1-2 individuals who will share their project from the Science Expo, as well as a recount of our Art Show.
Casual Clothes Day – Tuesday 20th June – Dress up as your favorite animal
The PAG representatives have decided to hold a casual clothes day with the theme, “dress up as your favorite animal” to raise funds for the Australian Koala Foundation. They hope to raise between $360-$600 to be able to adopt a koala, joey, or a koala and its joey for 12 months. This casual clothes day will be held on Tuesday 20th June, the Tuesday of the last week of term. More information about Australian Koala Foundation can be found via the link: https://www.savethekoala.com/
Please bring a gold coin donation.

Infectious Disease
Unfortunately we have had to continue to leave our Infectious Disease update in the bulletin. We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
Out of precaution, we have decided to inform you. If your child does test positive for COVID-19 and/or any other infectious disease we ask that you contact the school via email Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au and it is recommended that they isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
In relation to Covid-19 it is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff:
- If you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection, no matter how mild
- If you are a household or close contact of someone who has COVID-19
- If you are a social contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.
Reminders from Last Week’s Bulletin
Mobile Phone/Watches
A friendly reminder that our Mobile Phone Policy states that all phones and devices that connect to cellular networks and/or can take photos/videos, are handed in at the start of the day. These are then returned to students at the end of the day, any students who are wearing these devices are required to follow this policy and we appreciate your support in this and ask you to have a conversation with your child if this relates to them.
Traffic/Car Parking
Further to student safety, we thank everyone who adheres to the local government and Vic Roads laws regarding the use of vehicles in and around both the school and community. Unfortunately, we have had complaints of cars sitting across driveways and students exiting cars when not properly parked. We have been in communication with Banyule Council and they will be conducting spot checks before the end of term.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support with this matter that impacts not only student safety but that of the wider community.
