Infectious Disease Updates
Since our last newsletter we have had 6 confirmed cases of Covid 19 on-site while infectious. Even though our numbers are starting to drop we remind you to please be diligent by not sending your child to school when they are unwell. There are many illnesses going around the community and we have members of our community who are defined as being immune compromised. A friendly reminder that it is a collective effort in making sure that the school environment is as safe as possible for our entire community.
Enrolments
We are currently preparing our Pre-Prep session and Parent Information Night for our 2023 Foundation students. If you are placing a sibling claim and/or know of someone looking to enroll for Foundation 2023 at IEPS, they will need to submit their enrolment as soon as possible to be able to attend the Prep session on the 19th of August and the Parent Information Night on the 30th of August.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
While previously a random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate, this year, all families are invited to participate in the survey. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.
On Monday 15th of August, each family will receive an individualised letter inviting them to complete the survey. This letter will include all the details on how to access and complete the survey. The letter will be accompanied with a Compass notification on Monday to all families as a reminder to keep an eye out for this letter in their child’s bag.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
The survey results from parents/caregivers/guardians will be used to reflect on our 2022 annual targets & goals as well provide valuable information to help create our 2023 goals. If you require any further information or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
A friendly reminder that if you any comments that you believe the school needs to know about you are welcome, and encouraged to contact the school directly.
Environment Club
Thank you to Carly Simmance & Michael Vosbergen for giving up their time to continually support our environmental initiative to promote our green spaces here at IEPS. They have been leading the construction of creating a quiet outdoor area for students. The students are helping out by levelling and terracing this area and then next step will be to add seating, plants and chip bark, while still retaining the accessibility of this area.
Professional Practice Days – Student Free Days
The Victorian Government Schools Agreement has just recently been endorsed by the Fair Work Commission. As a result of this new agreement ‘teachers will be entitled to two further professional practice days in 2022, 2 professional practice days in 2023 and one professional practice day in 2024 and beyond’. This means that all teachers have access to two more Professional Practice Days in 2022.
The department received very positive feedback from principals and school communities in relation to schools holding a common professional practice day in Term 2, 2022, including staff electing to use the day to collaborate with their colleagues. The department is therefore strongly recommending schools hold their professional practice days on the same day for all staff.
Therefore in consultation with staff and the school council we have agreed to utilise these two Professional Practice Days on the same day for all the teaching staff. As a result of this our School Council has approved the following dates as Professional Practice Days. These Professional Practice days are Student Free days at Ivanhoe East Primary School.
- Monday, 3rd October –Curriculum Day – Teacher Professional Learning
- Monday, 31st October – This will be a Teacher Report Writing, Moderation, and Assessment Day
We have contacted OshClub and they will be able to provide care over these two days. If you would like to engage with this service, please book through their website www.oshclub.com.au. We have tried to give our community as much prior knowledge as possible to enable families to make alternative arrangements for these dates and/or engage with OshClub to utilise their service.
Late Arrivals/Early Pick-ups
All students entering the school grounds after 9am need to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. For students arriving between 9am-9:10am, once signed in at the Compass Kiosk in the foyer the students are then asked to independently make their way to the classroom.
For younger students, the office staff will either arrange for 2 students to accompany the student arriving late to their classroom or their parent/guardian is welcome to take them down.
For students requiring early pick-ups, parents need to report to the office and sign the students out on the Compass Kiosk. If parents have not notified the teacher of the early arrival and pre-arranged for the student to be waiting at the office at a nominated time, then parents should advise office staff who will contact the classroom and arrange for the child to be sent to the office.

On Thursday 4th of August IEPS ran their annual 3-6 Standardised Athletics Carnival. The lead into the event took some twists and turns with a last minute bus cancellation that lead to the revelation that the athletics track had been accidently double booked. Fortunately, IEPS showed the ability to be agile and made the best of the situation running our Aths on the school oval. Well done to all students, who had a go and gave their best in all the activities. Furthermore, a big shout out to all School and House Captains who did an exceptional job of running their given activities diligently and professionally all day. The day could not have run as smoothly without their help. It was excellent to have another successful large-scale event after so many disruptions after the last few years. Finally, the District Athletics team will be finalised over the coming week with the IDSSA District Aths Day taking place on the 22/8 at Meadowglen Athletics Stadium.
BOOK WEEK PARADE & CHANGE OF DATE
The Book Week Parade has been changed to Thursday the 25th of August.
The theme for Book Week 2022 is “Dreaming with Eyes Open”. This theme acknowledges Australia's First Nations People and their rich story based culture.
The date for Book Week this year is from Saturday 20 August to Friday 26 August 2022.
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. We have already begun this celebration in the library at IEPS with a display of the CBCA Shortlisted Books with an accompanying activity packet.
At IEPS we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Week Character Parade for all students and staff.
For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Children are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible.
Parents are invited to attend the parade.
Where: IEPS basketball courts
When: Thursday 25 August 2022
Time: 9:15am
Wear: Book character costume
If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.
Pam McQuin - Library Technician
We’re Bertie Atkin and Willem Versteeg, the Environment captains, and our goal is to make IEPS a more eco-friendly school where we hope to implement a positive and sustainable impact on our community.
Introducing us
Hello! My name is Willem Versteeg, I am an Environment captain and I want to help make this school a greener and cleaner learning environment. I have always been fascinated and obsessed with animals, and I want to help improve our school the best I can to make positive changes.
I’m Bertie Atkin, one of this year’s environment captains and along with my close friend and fellow environment captain Willem, I hope to help the school continue it’s legacy of doing great things for great causes and helping our environment.
We hope to make the school aware of how our actions affect the environment and actively help reduce waste and emissions.
Mask recycling at IEPS
Did you know that 129 billion face masks are thrown into landfill every month? To help with this problem, last Friday we announced at assembly a mask recycling project. Face mask bins will be put outside the library and in the office, with more places to come.
Please bring masks in from home so we can help recycle them.
We are excited to introduce this project and want to thank the extremely helpful people who helped us achieve this.
Please make our new Canteen Manager Kim Hall welcome to our school community.
We are in urgent need of volunteers in the Canteen. If you are able to spare a few hours it would be appreciated. Please follow the link below for the Canteen Roster.
