Covid Update
Face Masks
We have unfortunately had a further increase in cases from Friday 16th to Friday 23rd July (20 Covid cases reported that were deemed infectious while on-site). Please find a reminder from the Department of Education around the expectation that, through to the end of winter, students aged 8 and over and staff will wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask. Masks are not required to be worn outdoors but can be worn when physical distancing is not possible. This expectation should not constrain student participation in the full range of school activities, including music, sport and performances. Students or staff who do not meet this expectation will not be sanctioned, however as outlined by the DET we ask you as a member of the community to support mask-wearing as a simple step to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases and ensure our schools are as safe as possible.
Testing and Isolation Requirements
Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT's) will be coming home with students this week, please keep an eye out for them.
After the 4-week exemption period, students and staff members who are a household contact of a new COVID-19 case, must follow the rules for household contacts, including reporting this to their school.
As part of this they must take 5 rapid antigen tests (RATs) over 7 days and receive negative test results and wear a face mask (if over 8 years old) in indoor spaces. Families and staff will also have to report being a household contact to their school after this 4-week period.
We thank you for your support as we continue to manage this ever-evolving situation. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Enrolments
We have now sent out enrolment acceptance letters to all families within our zone, who have sibling claims and communicated the process for our out of zone applications. If you are still planning on submitting an enrolment for IEPS, we ask that you please do so at your earliest convenience. Our Parent Information Session for 2023 enrolled students is scheduled for the 30th August and we aim to have our enrolments finalised prior to this date.
Farewell to Ms Elizabeth Hein
Prior to the end of Term 2 we were informed by Ms Elizabeth Hein (5H teacher) that she had decided to end her tenure at Ivanhoe East PS to pursue personal opportunities that had become available.
We were able to move quickly into the recruitment process, but unfortunately we were unable to find a suitable replacement through the DET recruitment process. However we are grateful that Ms Robyn Gilmour has updated her availability and will take 5H until we are able to find a suitable full time replacement. Robyn is a valued member of our casual staff, and she is very experienced in teaching Grade 5 students.
We would like to wish Elizabeth the very best for the future.
East Ivanhoe Village
New Pedestrian Crossing – near Foodworks
After many years of community feedback and advocacy, the Department of Transport (DoT) have recently confirmed a new pedestrian crossing near Foodworks will be installed. DoT have commenced discussions with local traders on the final design and are yet to confirm dates for construction.
In addition, Council continues to advocate for an upgrade to the existing pedestrian crossing on Lower Heidelberg Road.
