Covid Update
Our Covid safe measures have not changed and are still in place as the DET operations guide has not changed. Our air filters were cleaned on Friday of last week and we have one in every learning area across the school. In areas with more square meterage than normal we now have two air filters.
We currently don’t have a lot of Covid cases at IEPS, however the rise in influenza cases is something to note, therefore we ask that you continue to be diligent and keep your child at home if they are symptomatic.
Assembly
We welcome our school community to come on-site to join us for our final assembly of the term. The assembly will be located on the oval this Friday 17th June, starting at 9.15am. We look forward to seeing you there.
Curriculum Day Staff Professional Learning
Last Friday was a Curriculum Day that occurred due to the Department of Education advising that Professional Practice Day’s should occur on the same day for all staff due to the current state-wide CRT shortage. IEPS staff spent the day unpacking the components of learning and enhancing our curriculum documentation by linking the learning areas and capabilities across the curriculum. We engaged with educational consultant Toby Mcilrath to unpack the design process and further develop our framework structures.
This design process gave us the opportunity to enhance our curriculum documentation, focusing on creating authentic and purposeful learning opportunities for all students. We look forward to continuing our work on our whole school curriculum mapping and unit designs to provide the best learning opportunities and experiences for all students at IEPS.
Tragic News Regarding Two Members of Our Community
Unfortunately this communication accompanies devastating news for our community. Tragically two of our students have lost a parent over the past week. These students are in Year 5 and Year 1 and their families are currently grieving with their loss. As a school we will continue to communicate with and support each family through available resources to the school.
If you would personally like to engage with community organised support for each of the families please directly contact the class representatives.

Enrolments
We are asking that any families that are within our zone or who are making a sibling claim out of zone submit their enrolments by the end of this term. In early Term 3 we will be aiming to process out of zone enrolments with a better understanding of how many places we can offer, but also start preparing our workforce planning in a timely manner. Please refer to www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au for further information around zoning of schools.
Annual Report to School Community
The School Annual Report has completed the final step which is from the ‘Improvement Support Unit’ and they have stated that IEPS’s Annual report has met all quality assurance criteria required by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority. The Annual report is available for our community to view through the following link https://ivanhoeeps.schoolzineplus.com/policies
Hoodie Up Day
A big thank you to wider community for your participation in Hoodie Up Day. What a fabulous day it was, by wearing hoodies we were able to show a little more understanding of how we can support and embrace autistic people and celebrate the diversity autism brings to our world.
A special thank you to Luisa Ford and Shavaj Kallamkote for speaking to their child’s respective grades. I would also like to thank Felix Gurr for his advocacy and organisation of the event. Felix will be providing a summary of the day for next week’s bulletin.
Fair Sub Committee’s
We have created Fair Sub Committee’s under the following categories as they require additional support from our community: Sponsorship and raffle; Community / Market stalls and Entertainment.
If you are interested in being involved in one of the sub committees please fill out the form below at your earliest convenience.
Working Bee
The Google Form below is seeking interest from families that would be available/interested in participating in a school working bee. A working bee is a great opportunity to not only help improve the physical environment of the school but also a social opportunity to work with and meet other families in the community. Please register your interest/availability and skillset in the form below.
East Ivanhoe Village Upgrade Extension
Each family would have received an envelope from Banyule Council. This forms aim is to review parking and traffic pressures within the village. IEPS and Banyule council want to understand a typical journey to and from Ivanhoe East Primary School. This will help them and us as a school understand traffic pressure points and find possible solutions. We ask that you complete this map at your earliest convenience and place it into the prepaid reply envelope and send it back to the council before this coming Friday. This has been extended as they have only had roughly a 10% response rate.

Resilience resources for parents and teachers
Resilience resources for parents and teachers.
At our parent presentation on Resilience, parents asked for resources and reading. There are excellent resources provided by the government on how to help children to grow into strong adults with capacity to handle the ups and downs that hit us all. Best wishes, Vicki McKenzie

Carol Dweck has written some excellent books on setting a positive, learning oriented mindset. Here is a quote from one of her articles:
As students move through our educational system, all of them will face adversity at one time or another, whether it is social or academic in nature. Thus, a central task for parents and educators is to prepare students to respond resiliently when these inevitable challenges arise. Although educators and parents have intuitive strategies for doing so, many of these strategies may be ill-advised, such as praising students for being “smart” to boost their self-esteem or condemning those who behave aggressively as evil bullies. This is why we need scientifically tested methods to tell us how to truly promote resilience. Our research has looked at these adversities through the eyes of students to try to capture the underlying psychology of what causes some students to feel vulnerable, discouraged, or stressed when they face challenges. We have found that what students need the most is not self-esteem boosting or trait labeling; instead, they need mindsets that represent challenges as things that they can take on and overcome over time with effort, new strategies, learning, help from others, and patience. When we emphasize people’s potential to change, we prepare our students to face life’s challenges resiliently.
