Covid update
Over the weekend we noticed an increase in the notifications of reported positive cases in our community. Some of these cases have come from the close contacts identified at Year 6 camp as well as cases from other classes. We also received notification from our community that either their child or the people they spent time with in new settings over the long weekend have tested positive.
As always, our aim is to make every possible effort to ensure staff and students are safe and that schools remain open, and provide a sense of normality by starting up wider school events for our wider community.
In light of this, we remind our community of our strongly recommended surveillance testing via the DET provided RAT’s, we encourage you to complete this on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, and Monday and Wednesday of next week. We have received a new allocation of RATs. If you are unable to access a RAT, then please undertake a PCR test. If you or your child/ren have symptoms we encourage you to seek a PCR test if possible.
With the recent increase in cases, please find below a timely reminder of the current DET operation guide in relation to current COVID safe measures and the requirements if you and/or your family is a positive case or classified as a household contact. This information is available on compass through a post 3 days ago titled COVID Update DET Operations Guide & IEPS.
Curriculum Day
Tuesday 26th of April will be a student free day. Staff will be partaking in a whole day of staff learning on this day.
Seesaw
The use of Seesaw here at IEPS is to enhance the partnership with our parent community, enhance student engagement, and provide an insight into what is happening in the classroom. Every class has posted their first-class post, and this is available on each parent & child’s Seesaw account. We are looking forward to creating an ongoing portfolio and build a connection between home and school that showcases student learning in a more authentic timely way which also promotes student agency of their learning. Teachers will be posting a whole class journal weekly, and students will be posting their work once a fortnight. Specialist subjects will be posted once a term.
As part of our 2022 Annual Implementation Plan, one of our key improvement strategies is to build partnerships with and beyond the community. In light of this, we have created an IEPS parent community Instagram page. The aim is to use this platform to inform the current and wider parent community of the ongoing events in and around the school. This page will not include photos of any identifiable students and we have the privacy settings turned on that prevents comments and tags from occurring.
We encourage you to follow this account @ivanhoeeastprimaryschool and share it amongst the parent community as a means of not only keeping up with events but also showcasing IEPS as a whole.
Canteen
Last week I spoke about how valuable our canteen is to IEPS. I mentioned that we can’t provide a full menu without parent volunteers. Thank you to those of you who have/are volunteering, however we are doing a call out for more people to support our wonderful canteen. More information provided on how to volunteer in our canteen section of the bulletin. Even if it is for just an hour, Sonia would greatly appreciate any help.
A reminder that all lunch orders are to be completed by 9.30am via www.myschoolconnect.com.au/ivanhoeeast and that over-the-counter sales are only for snack items.
Green card donations
The school is looking for donations to support our new positive behaviour system – Green Cards. Students at IEPS that are consistently displaying the school values and going above and beyond in their learning and/or for their peers have been earning themselves Green Cards and are sent to a school leader for a celebration and pump up. Their name is also put into a school raffle box, which is drawn at assemblies and a student from Prep to 2, and 3 to 6 will earn themselves a prize.
Please reach out to the school if your business can donate any items that we could add to the prize box. Currently, our prize box has sports equipment, squishy balls, notebooks, pen packs etc. It is important to note, these items are donations and not sponsorships. Your support would be greatly appreciated!

Indigenous Cultural Program with Robert Michael Young
We are so pleased to announce that our Indigenous Cultural Program will begin next Monday the 21st of March, ending on Friday the 1st of April. This has previously been cancelled due to Covid-19. All students will be working with Indigenous artist and leader Robert Michael Young. You may have seen Robert on the ‘Making It Australia’ show, in September last year. The aim of the program is to deepen students’ understanding of indigenous culture through art, connection, creativity and our school values. Robert will be in the school for 2 weeks and each class will have a double session with him during this time. Robert will also provide support to our teachers so that they can lead activities in their classes that support the program. Further information will follow in next week’s Bulletin.
On the 21st March IEPS will also be celebrating Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism. The message of Harmony Week is everyone belongs. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians.
It will be a day where students will be able to wear something that represents belonging to them, for example a football jersey, traditional cultural dress or perhaps wear orange which signifies social communications and meaningful conversations.
Classrooms will be celebrating Harmony Day with school activities to explore and understand belonging.
If you would like more information you can go to https://www.harmony.gov.au/
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
This Friday the 18th March is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative celebrates 12 years of action, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.
IEPS will be taking time during the day to explore what bullying is and the role we all play in preventing and responding to it. The theme for 2022 is Kindness Culture. By building Kindness Culture together, we can promote inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students in schools across our community.National Day
