Covid Update
As you may have noticed through our regular covid communications that we have had a recent increase in cases. We have been averaging a couple of isolated cases per week, however recently we have had upwards of 7 cases a day. We want to acknowledge the impact that this has had on our students and families and remind our community that there are still a multitude of covid safe measures in place.
- Surveillance testing to occur each Monday and Wednesday via the RAT provided by the school
- If your child returns a negative result, but is still showing symptoms, please keep them at home
- Year 3-6 students are required to wear masks while indoors.
I recognise that many measures have changed in the wider community, however in an educational setting we are still required to follow these covid safe measures.
We thank you in advance for your diligence with our covid safe measures.
Enrolments
Enrolments are currently open; it would be extremely helpful if parents with siblings enrolling in 2023 could contact the office to obtain an enrolment form or download one from the web site as soon as possible. Families can either call, email or drop in to advise us of their intentions and we will place your child on our database ahead of the confirmation process in Term 3.
We are requesting all enrolments to be submitted by June 25th, as this will give us time to ensure we prioritise sibling claims and new enrolments from inside our Designated Neighbourhood Area. Once we have done this, we will look to provide clarity for those enrolling from outside of our area, as per the Department’s guidelines.
School tours will begin from Week 10 of this term, and will occur on a Tuesday & Thursday, this can be booked through the front office. If you would like a tour prior to this, you are welcome to contact the office or the principal at tom.boyle@education.vic.gov.au
Canteen
What a privilege it is that we have a school canteen. This is an integral part of IEPS, and I would like to acknowledge all the hard work that Sonia does daily. Unfortunately, we can’t provide a full menu without parent volunteers. Thank you to those of you who have/are volunteering, however we are doing a call out for more people to support our wonderful canteen. More information provided on how to volunteer in our canteen section of the Bulletin. A reminder that all lunch orders are to be completed by 9.30am via www.myschoolconnect.com.au/ivanhoeeast and that over-the-counter sales are only for snack items.
Parent Payments
We are very appreciative and thank parents that have already contributed. Parent payments help the school to operate effectively to a high standard and allows IEPS to provide a significant range of programs that cannot be delivered without the support of families. Once again, we would like to thank the parents that have already made these payments and inform you that you are still able to contribute through the course confirmations tab in Compass.
Seesaw
The use of Seesaw here at IEPS is to enhance the partnership with our parent community, enhance student engagement, and provide an insight into what is happening in the classroom. The use of Seesaw was endorsed by School Council and is prominent in our School Annual Implementation Plan. The aim of Seesaw is not to eliminate student portfolios, instead enhance and create an ongoing portfolio with the intent to build a connection between home and school that showcases student learning in a more authentic timely way. This will also promote student agency of their learning. SeeSaw has been vetted by the Department of Education and Training (DET) via a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and is a widely used tool in many schools.
Students who have parent approval will receive their individual log in’s this Thursday afternoon, if you haven’t provided approval or would like to opt out please contact your classroom teacher as the Compass event has closed.
Parent Meetings with Staff (On-Site)
It has been great to see our community back on-site and we appreciate you still adhering to the covid safe measures. If it is required, parents are now able to meet with their child’s classroom teacher in person. A scheduled meeting will be required, and this is to be organised by contacting your child’s classroom teacher via email or Compass. However if you would prefer a Webex or phone call this can be arranged also by contacting your child’s classroom teacher.
2 minute drop off/pick up zone
Just a reminder that the 2 minutes drop off zone is for students to be dropped off or collected and not parking spaces.
There are ample places to park around the school and it can be a challenge for parents when the drop off bays are being taken up as parking spots.
Strings Music Teacher
We will be looking at employing a new strings teacher at the start of Term 2, therefore there will be no strings music sessions for the rest of Term 1, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Regards,
Tom Boyle
Acting Principal
Leaders
I believe that you can carve a path into our world and you can make a difference. I believe that even in the dark there is light. What do you believe in? Every day, every moment, every second, you are standing in this world and you are making a difference. And the decision whether that difference is positive is in your hands. The future is in your hands. And every single one of you is a leader. It’s not about a fancy title. It’s about what’s truly in it. What you are going to do and what’s in it for everyone. Because being a leader is not for yourself, it is for others.
I saw school captain as an opportunity, to help others. I took on this role for others. Because what is life if there isn’t anyone else? I think we should spend our days working to make others happier and feel more belonging. Now imagine, a world with just you. Nothing would work. That’s why I believe that we should value people to the best of our ability and be thankful for them every, single, day.
Share your ideas, share your joy, share your passion. Share what motivates you. Be someone’s motivation or fuel it. Motivation is our energy, our reason, it is ‘why?’All of us are fuelled by it. You may not know it is there or what it is, but if we take a moment of our days to notice it we can multiply it and harness that power to strive the best in ourselves. To be the best person we can be to help others and leave a trail of positivity in our footsteps.
Thank you.

The IEPS swimming calendar is off and running as we approach the half way point of the SSV swimming competition. Both the IEPS swimming trials and District swimming have now concluded with Division, Region and State swimming still to come for those who progress.
This year IEPS had its first ever swim trials at Fitzroy swimming pool on Friday Feb 11. All students gave their best in every race and the sportsmanship and comradery was a highlight throughout the day. Thanks to everyone that came along and supported the students and special mention to all parents that helped on the day. Events like this can’t be run effectively without your support.
From here a team of 31 students was selected to represent IEPS at the District trials taking place on March 3rd at Watermarc Aquatic Centre. Once again all students represented the school with pride both in and out of the pool. Furthermore, IEPS had some outstanding results in the water with our school taking home a win for the best girls team in the district and a second overall for the boys team. Well done to all involved and all the best to all students competing at Division and beyond!
Prize Donations
The school is looking for donations to support our new positive behaviour system – Green Cards. Students at IEPS that are going above and beyond in their learning and/ or for their peers have been earning themselves Green Cards and are sent to a school leader for a celebration and pump up. Their name is also put into a school raffle box, which is drawn at assemblies and a student from Prep to 2, and 3 to 6 will earn themselves a prize.
Please reach out to the school if your business is able to donate any items that we could add to the prize box. Currently, our prize box has sports equipment, squishy balls, notebooks, pen packs etc. It is important to note, these items are donations and not sponsorships. Your support would be greatly appreciated!
It’s been a busy start to 2022
It’s wonderful to see the students embrace reading and engage in the library. In addition to the wonderful resources already available, the library subscribes to a “Standing Orders” program which ensures we receive new, high quality books nearly every month. These range from picture books, graphic novels, fiction and non-fiction books. While we do receive these new books, there are still quite a few requests from students on a daily basis. Unfortunately, our library budget doesn’t allow for the purchase of all requests. Therefore, I thought I would publish a list of fiction and non-fiction books that are repeat requests. We are always happy to receive new/like new donations of books and we have received some wonderful donations from the parent community in past years. Maybe you have some of these laying around home. Or maybe you are a thrifty shopper and frequent books sales, used books stores or op shops. Here is a list of repeat requests:
- Keeper of the Lost Cities
- Wings of Fire
- David Walliams books (specifically Gangsta Granny, Awful Auntie, Bad Dad, Billionaire Boy, The Ice Monster, The Midnight Gang, World’s Worst Children, Parents and Teachers)
- Pokemon Junior Readers
- Guinness World Record (any years), Where’s Wally and Hard Cover Star Wars Books (Very Popular, “well-loved” and hard to keep these on the shelves)
- Books on transportation (specifically aviation)
- Dog Man
- Kids Cooking/Baking Books
- Basic Origami Books
- Dinosaur Books
- Space Books
Also, as the term comes to an end, overdue notices will be distributed to classroom teachers and later to students. Unfortunately, there are quite a few books borrowed from last year that have yet to be returned. Please look around and return these book as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support.
