The Ivanhoe East Primary School redbrick school building has been a landmark in the Ivanhoe East area since 1930.
This original two storey structure houses the School Reception area, the Principal and Assistant Principal‘s offices, the Staffroom, Conference Room, specialist teacher’s offices and seven classrooms. Over the years the interior of the classrooms and offices has been renovated and updated to allow teachers and students to work in a modern technological environment. Many features of the original building have been retained.
The Junior Wing was completed ten years ago with considerable school community support and input. It is a colourful, light airy building with seven air conditioned classrooms. Dedicated computer rooms and offices for teachers are attached to each classroom. A wide corridor acts as a break out area where groups of children can work under teacher supervision.
Two recent major building projects have transformed the Senior School buildings and the SPACE area. The Senior School is now housed in a double storey building with and an attractive, modern library and a renovated art room on the ground floor and six classrooms and a break out area on the first floor. The entry is via a pathway over a swale planted with trees and native plants. The swale is watered using recycled water collected and stored from the building roof. A lift provides disabled access to the classrooms.
The SPACE Centre has long been a hub for the local community. Sporting, leisure groups, and choirs are some of the many groups who use the facilities daily. The Space also houses the IEPS After School Care program and the School Canteen. Students enjoy using the physical education gymnasium, the music room and music lesson studios. Two performing arts rooms provide areas for student performances and a facility for guest speakers to address audiences. The Bendigo Bank room on the first floor has a kitchen facility, interactive white boards and can accommodate fifty conference participants.
The school playground has a senior and junior school playground and an oval. Future plans for the grounds include an update of the rock area, a new sandpit, planting of new garden beds and replacement of the outside furniture.
