As well as the provision of a strong academic program complemented by rich programs promoting creativity, the arts, physical activity, healthy living and languages, the school is committed to building community and social capital.
A key feature of our school is the consistently high level of parental involvement and support in all aspects of the school each year, which is reflective of a strong and healthy partnership between home and school. The wider community utilises our facilities including an indoor basketball court complex, grounds, Performing Arts rooms and meeting rooms.
Extensive intervention and enrichment programs cater for student diversity with an emphasis on intellectually challenging and extending them. Students excel in a range of extra-curricular activities such as the performing arts, public speaking and sports. The wide use of technology to enhance learning is evident as is the strategic construction of extensive new facilities to cater for 21st Century learning needs.
With a current enrolment of approximately 550 students, the school is generally organised into single year level classes with a multi-age class where numbers require this. Staff at each year level work closely in teams to plan and deliver excellent classroom programs. Our teachers are proactive, approachable, highly capable and dedicated to ensuring that every student in their care achieves to the very best of their abilities.

The Year 5 students returned from Camp Coonawarra in Gippsland last Friday after enjoying four days of challenge and co-operation. Feedback from the students has been positive and they enjoyed the variety
of the activities and making connections with each other. We are grateful to our teachers and parents for providing this experience for the students. Thank you to Ms Silvestro for organising the camp and to our
teachers Mr Phillips, Ms Gould, Mr Bartlett and Mr Lamers for taking time away from their families so that the students can have this positive outdoor learning experience. Thank you also to our parent
volunteers John Angelopoulos, Peter Stephens, Julie Jensen, Craig Shearer and Stan Eliadis who make this event possible.

Ivanhoe East PS is participating in the DET Learning Labs initiative to support further development of Amplify: Empowering students through voice, agency and leadership (Amplify) which is a tool that was recently released to all schools
throughout the state. We are working in a cluster of five schools where school leaders, teachers and students will design a student voice, agency and leadership (SVAL) implementation approach for their school. The learning and feedback from
Learning Lab schools will be used to develop tools and resources, providing further support for all schools, and will be included in the final version of Amplify.
Our engagement in this initiative allows us to establish a partnership approach with students, acknowledging that students are knowledgeable experts in their lives and that they can contribute to improving their schools and communities. The
team comprising of myself, Ben Phillips, Kim Seng, Justin Bartlett and Tess Ennoss are leading this work throughout the school and we look forward to sharing our progress with you.
