As of the beginning of Term 4 you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass. Signed notes are not required.

When you log onto Compass you will see a list of your children on the left hand side of the screen.

If your child has been absent from school and you have not provided approval for that absence it will appear as an alert in the top right hand corner of your Compass homepage. By clicking on this alert you will see a list of the instances where your child has been marked late or not present. You can approve the absences by clicking in the box on the left hand side of the ‘Activity Name’ to select a line and then clicking the ‘+ Parent Approval’ button at the top of the grid.page2image38224


The ‘Parent Approval Editor’ pop up box will appear. You can use the drop down arrow on the right hand side to select a reason for the absence and have the option of adding further details or comments. When you click on ‘Save’ this will add the Parent Approval into the system. The ‘Unapproved Absence’ will then be removed from your list.

Parents cannot edit or delete approvals. If you have made an error and need to edit or delete an approval, you will need to contact the office.

You are able to add approvals ahead of time (eg for a family holiday) by using the ‘Action’ button next to the child’s name from the Compass home page and selecting ‘Add Parent Approval (Approved Absence/Late)’. The 'Parent Approval Editor' screen will open to allow you to select a reason, enter comments and select a date range for the absence.

If you arrive late for school or are leaving early, the ‘Late Arrivals/Early Departures’ sign in book is still to be used and the original copy handed to the classroom teacher. When using this book, please be sure to tick the appropriate box as either a ‘Late Arrival’ or ‘Early Departure’.
